A third parking garage is in the works for Disney Springs.

The Reedy Creek Improvement District on Wednesday authorized its staff to pursue some conceptual architectural and engineering designs including a third garage on the south side of Buena Vista Drive across from the Lime garage.

“The size of the parking garage has not been determined but it is anticipated the garage will include at least 2000 spaces,” Reedy Creek District Administrator John Classe said in an email.

A pedestrian bridge over Buena Vista Drive connecting the two garages is a possibility as well.

A project budget and schedule will be developed during the conceptual design phase.

The first parking garage, with 6,000 spaces, opened in 2014. It was part of a big public works project associated with the expansion of the Disney entertainment district. That has included two pedestrian bridges, widening of Buena Vista Drive, and an extension off an Interstate 4 exit ramp leading directly into one garage. The second parking garage opened in May. The collection of public works projects has cost more than $360 million.

The high-tech parking garages have features including overhead lights that indicate whether spaces are empty.
